If you're considering a new heating system this winter, we recommend 100% that you change to biomass.
Not only because of the energy savings you will obtain, but also because it is a totally organic fuel, which does not increase emissions of CO2 to the atmosphere.
The energy savings obtained with pellets are considerable, thanks to its low price compared to other fuels such as diesel, propane, butane and electricity.
Advantages of pellets
Pellets have a high calorific count, produce very little ash residue as result of combustion, are easy to store and offer the possibility of use in stoves and boilers, allowing them to function fully automatically.
Also, their combustion generates a very low level of CO2 emissions. We could say that this is a CO2 neutral fuel because its emissions are so small that they do not contribute to the greenhouse effect.
Exactly how do pellet stoves work?
Pellet stoves and boilers have a fully automatic operation system with a programmable timer and thermostat, that is, with on and off automated features. Depending on the tank size and system, the boiler or stove should be filled with pellets more or less frequently. Its design gives comfort and a pleasant and friendly atmosphere to the living room.
What are pellets?
Pellets are small cylinders made from waste wood, sawdust and shavings compressed without any additives or binders. These materials can come from agriculture, industrial and / or municipal waste. Their humidity level is very low and they require very little storage space. To produce the same amount of heat, 2 kg of pellets equate to 1 litre of diesel oil.
What are the advantages of pellets?
Residues of other activities are used and this helps to channel agricultural surpluses.
The price of pellets is stable and will not be affected by the progressive increase in the price that other fuels derived from oil or gas will suffer.
Coming from the reuse of agriculture products, these may come from the same region where the stove is, promoting local economy.
No risk of explosion.
They are volatile.
No odours are produced.
Do not present any health risk in the event of leakage or spillage.
To produce the same heat, the stored pellet occupies about three times less volume than wood.
How long can pellets be stored?
As long as they are stored in a dry place there is no limit to the storage time.
Which installation does a pellet stove require?
A pellet stove heats the room in the house or office where it is located, as our ideal complement to the existing heating system. This is especially so for those rooms which need to be heated quickly and cheaply, after spending all day away from home. It simply requires access to a vent. Installation is easy for small consumptions (single family homes, residential homes or offices). For higher power and consumption an installation is required in a room dedicated to a biomass boiler.
What maintenance does a pellet stove require?
The accumulated ash must be cleaned once a week, with the aid of a vacuum cleaner. Once a year, a thorough cleaning must be performed in order to remove accumulated ashes in the various ducts.
What are the environmental benefits of heating with pellets?
Heating with pellets collaborates in the reduction of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Furthermore, the pellets do not contain sulphur, therefore decreasing acid rain.
Forest clearing is also encouraged, and this helps prevent forest fires as waste from pruning or cleaning is collected. Finally, the ash produced is 100% biodegradable and can be used as fertilizer.
